A Partnership for Progress
Earlier this year, we teamed up with the Flintshire Educational Psychology Team and a group of local schools to pilot AV1; our telepresence robot designed to support children unable to attend school. The goal was to explore how AV1 could support these children in accessing their education. The results? Truly inspiring.
From Pilot to Practice
After a successful pilot, Flintshire purchased the piloted AV1 units and embedded them into their wider inclusion strategy. The technology has proven to be more than just a stopgap, it's now a strategic tool for ensuring no learner is left behind.
A Breakthrough for Welsh-Medium Education
One unexpected, and exciting, insight from the pilot was AV1’s capacity to support Welsh-medium education. In a nation where the Welsh Government has set a bold target of one million Welsh speakers by 2050, maintaining access to Welsh-language instruction is critical.
Thanks to AV1, teachers can continue delivering lessons in Welsh, and learners attending remotely can stay immersed in the language. It ensures continuity, cultural connection, and full inclusion for learners who might otherwise be at risk of falling behind - all vital in supporting both academic progress and emotional wellbeing.
Aligning with the Curriculum for Wales
This capability aligns with the Curriculum for Wales, which places language, identity, and belonging at the heart of learning. AV1 helps learners remain part of their school community, not just socially, but linguistically. That’s essential for preserving fluency, confidence, and the sense of belonging among Welsh-speaking children.
Protecting Heritage, One Learner at a Time
We’re proud to see AV1 doing more than just supporting attendance. It’s helping protect the linguistic heritage of Wales, one learner at a time. For Flintshire and beyond, this is a glimpse of what inclusive, future-ready education can look like.
