Assistant Head shares how the school has adopted AV1 robots to support absent students (video)

Kirsty Berry is Assistant Head and ALNCo at St Cyres School. She explains how the school has adopted and thrived with AV1 Robots, which they have named after Take That!

St Cyres School were loaned their AV1s by Vale of Glamorgan Council. When first introduced to the idea of AV1, there was some initial reluctance towards the technology from the head and other staff members. However, the school prides themselves in their focus on technology, and were dedicated to getting the best support for their absent students, so decided to give AV1 a go.

The results speak for themselves: one Year 9 student had stopped attending school [04:53], but seeing and interacting with the classroom environment through AV1 gave him confidence which eventually got him back into the classroom and he's joining 90% of his timetable. Another student in Year 10 joins lessons through an AV1 robot when they are in too much pain to attend school in person [12:34].

Kirsty also describes some of the methods they use to ensure AV1 is implemented successfully, such as working gradually and choosing the right child [3:36], starting with the right subjects [04:21] in cases of EBSA/EBNSA and school anxiety.

Thank you to Kirsty and the whole team at St Cyres for sharing the fantastic work you are doing to ensure absent students stay connected to their learning, and feel they belong in their school community.
