Oslo, Norway, 10 February 2025 – No Isolation, the Norwegian company committed to combating school absenteeism through innovative technology, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious 2025 EURORDIS Company Award for Health Technology.
This award recognises No Isolation’s pioneering work in developing the AV1classroom robot, a transformative solution reshaping the lives of children and young people facing prolonged school absence. Whether due to chronic illness, long-term medical treatments, injuries, or Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA), AV1 empowers these students to virtually attend class, maintain friendships, and stay connected to the academic and social environments vital for their well-being and development.
Presented by EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe, the award underscores the meaningful impact that AV1 has had on over 10,000 children across 17 countries and 2,500 schools.
"Receiving the 2025 EURORDIS Company Award for Health Technology is a tremendous honor," said Morten Jørgensen, CEO of No Isolation. "We created AV1 to address a critical challenge: ensuring that children facing severe illnesses remain connected and supported, rather than feeling isolated or left behind. This recognition from EURORDIS highlights the meaningful difference AV1 makes by helping children and young people with debilitating conditions stay engaged in both their education and social lives, even when they can’t be physically present." continued Jørgensen.
About the AV1 Robot
The AV1 robot is a telepresence solution that bridges the gap between physical absence and classroom presence. The robot is at school, while the student controls it using the AV1 app on their smartphone, tablet or Chromebook. A camera and microphone connect absent pupils who can speak, see and hear everything through the robot. The camera is one-way, which removes the pressure of being seen for children who are ill, anxious or in pain.
The robot acts as a student’s avatar, allowing them to be present and engaged in school life. With its convenient handle or backpack, it can easily be carried around the school or even taken on trips. The student can control the robot’s movements, change its eye expressions, and signal participation by making its head flash green to 'raise their hand.' For days when a student feels too unwell to actively engage but still wants to follow along, they can switch the robot to ‘passive mode,’ with its head glowing blue. AV1 is also specifically designed with privacy and security at its core, protecting students, their classmates, and teachers, with no personal data ever collected about the student using AV1 or their classmates.
A Broader Impact
With over 30 million people in Europe affected by rare diseases, No Isolation’s work transcends individual classrooms. By collaborating with schools and municipalities worldwide, it is driving scalable solutions to combat absenteeism and promote educational inclusion.
"This award is not just a recognition of what we’ve accomplished so far,” said Jørgensen, “but a motivation to continue innovating and partnering with local authorities and organisations to ensure that every child, no matter their circumstances, has the chance to stay connected and thrive,” he added.
